Moho Complexity in Southern California Revealed by Local PmP and Teleseismic Ps Waves

چکیده
The Moho discontinuity plays an important role in crustal growth and evolution. In this study, we delineate the geometry southern California by jointly using local Moho-reflected waves PmP teleseismic Moho-converted Ps. To well constrain geometry, have developed a two-stage process to pick created reliable travel time data set with total of 10,192 picks. We also extracted 38,648 high-quality P-wave receiver functions (RFs). depth is initially estimated via common conversion point (CCP) stacking RFs then refined inverting community velocity model (CVM-H, version 15.1.1). newly built generally consistent Model 1.0 (CMM-1.0), that is, shallow beneath Salton Trough (23 km), uniformly Mojave Desert Basin Range (<29 sliver deep under western Peninsular Ranges, eastern Transverse Sierra Nevada (>34 km). Moho depth variation in southern California from teleseismic receiver functions
The number of broa.dband three-component seismic stations in southern California. has more tb an tripled recently. In th is study we use the teleseismic receiver function technique to determine the crustal thicknesses and Vp / Vs ratios for th ese stations and map out t he lateral variation of Moho dept h under southern California. It is shown t hat a. receiver function can provide a very good ...
متن کاملRegional S-wave structure for southern California from the analysis of teleseismic Rayleigh waves
Teleseismic Rayleigh waves, Ms > 7.0, in the period range 14 to 28 s, are well recorded by the short-period Benioff array within southern California. Multiple arrivals that hinder the determination of local phase velocity curves are detected by narrow band-pass filtering. The records are then windowed on distinct, coherent peaks that move uniformly across the array. Four to seven stations are i...
متن کاملCrustal and uppermost mantle structure in southern Africa revealed from ambient noise and teleseismic tomography
S U M M A R Y Rayleigh wave phase velocity maps in southern Africa are obtained at periods from 6 to 40 s using seismic ambient noise tomography applied to data from the Southern Africa Seismic Experiment (SASE) deployed between 1997 and 1999. These phase velocity maps are combined with those from 45 to 143 s period which were determined previously using a two-planewave method by Li & Burke. In...
متن کاملTwo waves of diversification in mammals and reptiles of Baja California revealed by hierarchical Bayesian analysis.
Many species inhabiting the Peninsular Desert of Baja California demonstrate a phylogeographic break at the mid-peninsula, and previous researchers have attributed this shared pattern to a single vicariant event, a mid-peninsular seaway. However, previous studies have not explicitly considered the inherent stochasticity associated with the gene-tree coalescence for species preceding the time of...
